SHOULD THEY STAY or SHOULD THEY GO ????????
Guidelines for Illnesses:
Medications at school:
Students who have frequent non-urgent discomforts (headache, cramps, etc.) might want to keep their own supply of over the counter medications at their campus clinic for use as needed. Medications should be brought to the campus clinic by the parent or guardian in the ORIGINAL UNOPENED container with directions for use for the child’s age group. Prescription medications will be given if the scheduled times are during school hours, as indicated by their physician and must have the pharmacy label with the students name and dosing information. Medications will not be administered if they are past the expiration date, or if the above requirements are not met. Click here to download/print the MEDICATION FORM.
Some medications follow the schedule below:
*Once a day medications can be given at home before or after school·
*Twice a day medications can be given at home before and after school.·
*Three times a day medications can be given at home before school, after school, and at bedtime.
*Four times a day medications can be given at home before school, one time at school after lunch, at home after school and at bedtime. (Please have pharmacist give 2 bottles; one for school and one for home.)
School personnel are unable administer essential oil products or herbal remedies.
HEALTH CONCERNS:
Please let your campus clinic staff know about health concerns for your student. Good communication is the best way for your child to be SAFE AT SCHOOL while living with and managing potentially serious health conditions.
Some health concerns like
ASTHMA, FOOD/SEVERE ALLERGIES, SEIZURES, DIABETES require that health information be updated by a Doctor EACH YEAR.
Guidelines for Illnesses:
- Fever of 100 or above: Stay home until temperature is less than 100 without giving fever reducing medications like Tylenol, Aspirin, or Ibuprofen for 24 hours.
- Active vomiting or diarrhea: Stay home until symptom free for 24 hours without medication interventions.
- Drainage from eyes that are red and itchy and appear suspicious for "pink eye". Do not return to school until medical treatment has begun (usually 3 sets of drops) or cleared by MD to return.
- If you have questions about whether your child should stay home or return to school, please contact you campus clinic or the District Nurse, Holly Oliphant, RN @ 936-628-2982.
